A water permit is required for the construction or alteration of any well, cistern, spring, or pond. When applying for the permit, please include a drawing of your property showing the location of your proposed water source.

Any work on a private water system must be completed by a registered private water system contractor. A list of registered contractors can be obtained from the Ohio Department of Health website.

 

     Examples of minimum isolation distance requirements for water source:

bullet

10' from sewers, drains - watertight pipes, properly sealed wells, structures, buildings and foundations. 

bullet

25' from streams, lakes, ponds, ditches, road, and highways.

bullet

50' from sewage tanks & absorption fields. 

bullet

100' from animal or poultry yards, less than 1000 animal units.

bullet

150' from storage or preparation area for fertilizers or pesticides.

bullet

200' from composting facilities.

Registration of Water Haulers

Anyone delivering bulk potable water for drinking, cooking, or household use must be registered with the health department.  A yearly inspection of the delivery equipment is required.  Click here for a list of  Water Haulers.
