DEFIANCE COUNTY SAFE COMMUNITIES COALITION KICKS-OFF THE CLICK IT OR TICKET CAMPAIGN

One of the safest choices drivers and passengers can make is to buckle up. Ohio’s annual seat belt survey, conducted by The Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) shows Defiance County’s current seat belt usage rate is 89.8%, which increased from 87.2% in 2022. In collaboration with Coffee with a Cop, Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition is conducting the Click It or Ticket kick-off event Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 8 a.m. at AMVETS Post 1991, 1795 Spruce St. Coalition partners including local law enforcement will attend to increase awareness about seat belt use in Defiance County.

The annual Click It or Ticket campaign is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s NHTSA’s high visibility enforcement effort that runs from May 13 to June 2, 2024. This campaign is aimed at enforcing seat belt use to help keep families safe, the national seat belt campaign runs concurrent with the busy Memorial Day holiday travel season. Seat belts save lives, and everyone – front seat and back, children and adults – need to buckle up – every trip, every time.

“We want to invite community members of all ages to join us for the Click It or Ticket Kick-Off at the monthly Coffee with a Cop on Thursday, May 23rd at the AMVETS. Wearing a seat belt is one of the easiest and most effective steps you can take to save your life in the event of a car crash. And we hope that we can encourage our community to take that life-saving step and encourage their family and friends to do the same.” said Jessica West, Public Information Officer for the Defiance County Health Department & member of the Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition.
