Sober Driving Matters on Labor Day and Every Day

During the Labor Day holiday period, including the end of summer and the busy holiday weekend, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will be working alongside the law enforcement community in Defiance County to decrease impaired driving. In 2021, there were 13,384 people killed in drunk-driving crashes that is one person every 39 minutes. Drinking and driving puts all road users at risk.

Join Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition at Coffee with a Cop at the Senior Citizens Pavilion at the Defiance County Fairgrounds on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 9 a.m. to spread the message about the dangers of drunk driving. Between August 18 and September 4, 2023, law enforcement officers nationwide will participate in high-visibility enforcement, pulling over and arresting drunk drivers in an effort to protect community members. The decision to not drink and drive should never be a tough one. Drunk driving is illegal and can be deadly — to the driver, to his or her passengers, and to other road users.

The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over national high-visibility enforcement campaign ends on September 4. Our commitment to educating the public on traffic safety never ends. Drunk driving is never okay. If you feel different, you drive different. Plan for a sober ride home. Drunk driving is 100-percent preventable. Don’t make the choice to put yourself and others at risk.
