Blood Pressure Screenings

Information on Blood Pressure:
Blood pressure is given as two numbers:
– Systolic: the pressure in your blood vessels as the heart beats
– Diastolic: The pressure as your heart relaxes and fills with blood
Normal: 120/180
Hypertension: 140/90 or above
High blood pressure if your systolic reading is 140 or higher and your diastolic pressure is 90 or higher.
Low blood pressure occurs when your blood pressure reading is lower than 90/60
What causes consistent high blood pressure:
– Unhealthy lifestyle choices
– Not getting enough regular activity
– Diabetes, kidney disease sleep apnea (chronic)
– Obesity
– Pregnancy
⅓ adults in the U.S. have high blood pressure and might not realize it. High blood pressure can cause side effects on the brain, kidneys, eyes, heart & increases chances of a stroke.
Early diagnosis and healthy changes can keep high blood pressure for, damaging your health.
Prevention:
– 150 minutes of exercise a week
– Not smoking
– Eating healthy (limited sodium and alcohol)
– Maintaining a healthy weight
– Stress management
