Defiance County, OH — The Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition is excited to offer 2 FREE Safety Town sessions for children ages 4.5–6 to help them prepare for a safe and successful start to the school year.
Safety Town is a fun, interactive program designed for children entering Kindergarten or 1st grade this fall. Through hands-on activities, children will learn important safety skills including pedestrian, bicycle, school bus, and everyday recreational safety. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet local first responders and explore emergency vehicles.
Registration is now open and will run through May 22 or until filled. Families can register online at defiancecohealth.org or by calling 419-784-3818. Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.
Two session options are available for families:
- Defiance Area YMCA — June 9 & 10
- Defiance County Fairgrounds — June 11 & 12
- Each day will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with drop-off from 8:00–8:30 a.m. and pick-up from 11:15–11:30 a.m. Children should attend both days to get the most fun and the full experience of Safety Town.
- Children attending must be potty trained.
The Safety Town program is sponsored by Defiance County Health Department, Defiance County Safe Communities Coalition, Arthur Law Firm, Defiance County Fair Board, and Defiance Area YMCA. Partner organizations for the event include: Defiance Police Department, Defiance Fire & Rescue, Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Hicksville Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Defiance County Drug Free Coalition, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, Ohio Operation Lifesaver, Ohio Department of Transportation, OSU Extension Defiance, Ohio School Safety Center, Nationwide Children’s Hospital-Toledo, Lewis Family McDonalds, Defiance Police Officers Association.
